Buffalo Shroud, Almost 1000 Left
1995
Silk, cotton, woven, silkscreened, and embroidered
8' x 36" x 12"
In the nineties, beef prices skyrocketed. I was intrigued by the buffalo, their meat is 17% fat, and it tastes yummy and it WAS free! What happened? I did the research. In 13 years, “Americans” slaughtered over 60,000,000 bison, (with Congress’ blessing) until someone noted that there were only 1,000 bison remaining. Then the US put the buffalo image on the nickel. This shroud was woven from unbleached silk threads with almost 1,000 squares, each square printed with the bison hoof print. The photo depicts a mountain of bison heads.
